Open (Open Connection / Database)
Clicking on the Open menu item will prompt you to select a pre-configured QAC (QAntrol Connection) file.
The connection files contain the information required for QAntrol to connect to a specific Project Database.
If the selected file is successfully opened you will then be prompted for your Project Specific username and password.
New Connection
Clicking on the New Connection menu item will open the QAntrol Application Settings window to allow you to configure a new QAC file.
In this window you have the following fields to be filled out.
Field |
Description |
---|---|
Connection Name |
This is the 'display name' of the connection. It is displayed at the top of the Project login window, and also in the bottom status bar of the QAntrol window once logged in. |
Server Name |
This is the name of the SQL Server that contains the Project Database. |
Database Name |
This is the name of the Database in SQL Server |
Username |
This is the username to use to connect to the database. This is for the SQL Server connection. (eg. sa for SQL System Admin user) |
Password |
This is the password for the username above |
Use Windows Authentication |
If this is Ticked then the user account that is running QAntrol will be used to log into the SQL Server database. As a result of this ALL QAntrol end-users will need to be added as Users of the Database in SQL Server. This option requires a lot of maintenance in terms of access to the database, and is therefore not recommended. |
Force user of the following licence file |
If this is ticked, then when this Connection file is opened the specified licence file (below) will be used whilst accessing the project database. This is the recommended way to license QAntrol as each user does not have to manually change licence files when they move from project to project. |
Licence File |
This is the licence file that will be used when opening this Connection file if the Force use of the following licence file option is ticked (above). |
Save To |
This is the location and filename of the Connection file that will be generated when the OK button is clicked. |
Database Manager
Clicking on the Database Manager menu item will open the Database Manager window, which is a System Administrator's tool to maintain the QAntrol databases.
This should only be used by IT System Administrators, and only on the server that runs the SQL Server Service.
Licence File
Clicking on the Licence File menu item will prompt you to select your default QAntrol licence file. This is the licence file that will be used when connecting to project databases that do not have forced licence files (see above)
Reset User Settings
QAntrol remembers a lot of user settings throughout its use.
These are:
•Grid column widths
•Grid columns that are visible or hidden
•Grid column positions (ie. the order in which the columns appear)
•Grid column sort orders
•Grid groupings
•Data Filters (eg. Schedules, and ITP codes to filter by)
•Form sizes
Clicking on Reset User Settings will delete clear all these settings, and return QAntrol to its initial installation state.
You may have to log out and back in to a project before these take effect.
